VIA: Eden’s new embedded platform
VIA Technologies Announced New VIA Eden Embedded Platform Today. The main idea behind the release of VIA Eden, according to the company’s plan, is to create a very economical platform that combines south and north bridges, an integrated graphics adapter, a set of peripheral controllers and a processor, while the power consumption of such a design does not exceed 6 W!.
In fact, this means the use of VIA Apollo PLE133 or VIA ProSavage PN133T chips with an integrated AGP 4x graphics core as north bridges, a VT8231 chip as a south bridge in combination with additional strapping that provides, depending on the platform model, a certain set of additional interfaces – IEEE 1394 , USB 2.0, TV out or Ethernet.
As envisioned by VIA, the Eden platform will find wide distribution in the market for products for creating such devices as digital set-top boxes, game consoles, digital recorders, home servers, “thin clients”, routers and POS terminals.
As announced, VIA Eden VE1400, VE1500, VE2400 and VE2500 versions are already available, VIA Eden VE1600 and VIA Eden VE2600 models to arrive in Q1 2021. Details on how these models differ from each other on the company’s website have not yet been found, but, most likely, the difference lies in the combination of peripheral controllers and processors with different clock frequencies.
