IDF: about Banias

Some details about the Banias processor, which Intel is developing for new generations of mobile computers, were announced yesterday at IDF.

The Banias project is being developed at the Israeli Intel Israel Design Center, the start of mass production of the processor is scheduled for late 2021 – early 2021. The core of the new Banias processor is based on a modified Pentium III architecture, but without the hyperpipeline organization inherent in Pentium 4 processors. Banias processors will be produced in modifications inherent in the current classes of mobile processors from Intel, namely Pentium III / Low-Voltage Pentium III / Ultra-Low-Voltage Pentium III. MicroOps Fusion in-processor interconnect technology is being developed to reduce processor power consumption. The first chips will have a clock speed starting from the one at which mobile Tualatin-M are likely to stop – 1.4 GHz. However, an economical processor will also find a place in servers, where the problem of energy consumption and heat dissipation is also not the least.

As the Banias project manager emphasized, the team has three main goals: reducing the size of transistors to reduce energy consumption, developing an effective technology for increasing the clock frequency without significantly increasing the energy consumption, developing an effective technology for working with processor commands.
