Tower finished assembling 0.18 micron line

Semiconductor manufacturer Tower Semiconductor announced that it has completed the installation of a pilot line for the production of chips using a 0.18 micron process technology. The line, mounted at the already operating Fab 1 company, is based on the 0.18μm CMOS process from Japan’s Toshiba.

The new line will produce prototypes of custom chips, and mass production will begin once it is transferred to Fab 2, which is currently under construction. After commissioning, Fab 2 will produce up to 33 thousand 200 mm wafers using a 0.18 micron process per month.

The total cost of the new 0.18 micron line is about $ 130 million. Source: Silicon Strategies
