Samsung’s new SRAM
Samsung announced the availability of three promising types of SRAM at once: QDR II, DDR II and NtRAM (No Turnaround Random Access Memory). All of these types of SRAM will be produced in 36 Mbps, using 0.15 micron technology, so far the chips are only available in samples.
QDR II and DDR II are high-speed SRAMs with HSTL (High Speed Transceiver Logic) support, designed for use in high-end routers and switches. They work at frequencies up to 250 MHz.
For the most demanding multiport switches, Samsung offers NTRAM, in which reading and writing can be performed synchronously, without starting a new cycle, which theoretically achieves 100% efficiency of the memory bus. NtRAM is available in x18, x36 and x72 organizations, and QDR II and DDR II are available in x8, x18 and x36 organizations. Various versions of all three chips are available: with operating voltages of 1.8 V, 2.5 V and 3.3 V, in form factors: QDRII – 165FBGA, DDRII – 153BGA / 165FBGA, NtRAM (TM) – 0TQFP / 119BGA / 165FBGA / 209BGA. Mass production of new SRAM chips should begin in mid-2021.
We must pay tribute to the Korean company – in this they are really the first. So far, no one has offered capacious chips of this type of memory.
