Philips puts CDMA business in safe hands. To China

From informed sources, it was reported that the semiconductor division of Philips is leaving the CDMA chipset market and selling the corresponding division (70 people plus all the developments) to the Chinese company Holley Communications Group Co. Ltd. Financial details of the deal have not yet been disclosed.

Philips Semi will continue to sell its existing CDMA Plus 200 chipset for IS-95 compatible phones, however, we will no longer see the next generation CDMA chipsets from it. This does not mean at all that Philips Semi will abandon the production of RF chips (transceivers, amplifiers, straps) and broadband processors for GSM and 3G CDMA.

Analysts claim that Philips left the market due to the fact that it could not compete with Qualcomm – the market leader (about 90%) of CDMA chipsets.

Holley Communications Group Inc is the American division of the large Chinese company Holley Group, which decided to go into mobile communications. Once again, I would like to remind you that China is potentially the largest and most promising market for both mobile phone manufacturers and, accordingly, fillings for them.
