First 200mm factory in China
China Semiconductor Manufacturing International Corp. (SMIC) has completed the construction of a building for its 200mm factory in a technopark outside of Shanghai, and is currently starting to install equipment there. In November, the company plans to open this factory, which, oddly enough, will be the first 200mm 0.25μm production in mainland China. The maximum productivity of the factory is 45 thousand. 200mm plates per month.
SMIC competitor – Grace Semiconductor Manufacturing Corp. will launch its similar factory in Q4. 2021 year.
It’s certainly not as cool as the 0.13 micron 300 mm TSMC factory, but clearly cheaper (China after all). While Chinese companies are very far behind Taiwanese companies, they are being watched very closely. Who knows how things will turn out in the near future.
