Taiwan’s VIA’s latest desktop chipset release plan updates revealed.

In addition to the current successful KT266A chipset for AMD Athlon / Duron processors, KT333 will soon be added (samples – December 2021, start of mass production – Q1 / Q2 2021): V-Link bus (266 Mb / s), FSB 200 support / 266 MHz, DDR266 / 333 memory, with ECC, AGP 4x.

The next option will be an updated version of KT333, which bears the working name KT333A: changes will affect support for the V-Link bus (533 Mb / s) and AGP 8x. Chipset samples are expected at the end of the first – beginning of the second quarter of 2021, mass production is scheduled for the second quarter of 2021.

The integrated KLE133 and KM / KL133 chipsets will be replaced by “desktop” versions of the KM266 (V-Link bus (266 Mb / s), FSB 200/266 MHz, support for PC133 / DDR266 memory, ProSavage8 GFX integrated graphics, AGP 4x, start of mass production – Q1-Q2 2021) and, later – KM333 (V-Link bus (533 Mb / s), FSB 200/266 MHz, DDR266 / DDR333 memory, integrated graphics core Zoetrope GFX, AGP 4x / 8x, samples – end of the first – the beginning of the second quarter of 2021, the beginning of mass production – the end of the second quarter of 2021).

The release of the first chipset for the AMD Hammer processor family is not far off. In terms of support for K8 processors for desktop PCs, VIA is preparing the K8HTB chipset for release: HyperTransport bridge, V-Link bus (533 Mb / s), AGP 4x / 8x support – that is all the details about this chipset known at the moment. K8HTB samples will appear at about the same time as the new processors: roughly, towards the end of the second quarter of 2021.

We have already heard about the new version of the P4X266 chipset for Intel Pentium 4 processors – P4X266, which has added 533 MHz FSB support, the new chipset is expected to appear in mass quantities next month.

The next one will be P4X333, samples of which are expected in January 2021, and the start of mass production in the second quarter: FSB 400/533 MHz, V-Link bus (533 MB / s), support for AGP 2x / 4x / 8x, DDR266 / DDR333 , ECC.

In addition, integrated chipsets are being prepared for release: PM266T for P3 / T processors (V-Link bus (266 Mb / s), Socket 370, support for PC133 / DDR266 memory, AGP 4x, integrated ProSavage8 GFX core, start of deliveries – first / second quarter 2021); P4M266 for Pentium 4 processors (V-Link bus (266 Mb / s), FSB 400 MHz, PC133 / DDR266 memory, ECC, AGP 4x, integrated ProSavage8 GFX core), to replace it in the first / second quarters of 2021 – version P4M266A with FSB 533 MHz support. In the second quarter of 2021, it is planned to launch the release of the P4M333 chipset: FSB 400/533 MHz, V-Link bus (533 Mb / s), support for AGP 4x / 8x, DDR266 / DDR333, integrated graphics core Zoetrope GFX.

Desktop chipset southbridges include VT8233 / C variants (6-channel audio, HSP V9.0, six USB ports, VIA MAC with MII interface, Home PNA support, 10/100 BT, UDMA 100/66 dual-channel controller), VT8233A (the same, but with UDMA 133 support) and VT8235 (V-Link bus up to 533 MB / s, dual-channel ATA133 IDE controller, six USB ports, 10/100 MAC, 6-channel audio, samples – Q1 2021, mass release – Q2 2021). In addition, VIA offers an additional set of logic similar to that presented in the roadmap of mobile chipsets: 3-port IEEE 1394 – VT6306 interface controller, 4-port PCI-USB 2.0 bridge VT6202 and 10/100 PHY controller VT6102.
