Reporting from under the cover of Microsoft Xbox
So Microsoft’s long-awaited Xbox game console hit retail late last week. Of course, not yet with us, in the USA.
Curious naturalists from the Japanese PC Watch have already disassembled one of the Xbox copies “by cogs”, and this is what they found there:
This is a view without the top cover (you can see a 5x DVD-ROM drive and a Seagate ST310211A hard drive (10 GB, IDE interface, Ultra ATA / 100, 5400 rpm, jumper in the “Cable Select” position).
After removing the DVD drive and hard drive, the motherboard, power supply and processor cooler became visible.
And this is the fee itself.
And a few more interesting photos:
System processor – Pentium III FSB 133 MHz, 128 KB cache (Coppermine).
Memory – 128 Mbit DDR SDRAM chip “K4D263238M-QC50” from Samsung with a clock frequency of 200 MHz (400 MHz DDR).
MCPX from NVIDIA, combining IDE, USB, Ethernet and sound controllers.
Video encoder CX25871-14 from Conexant supporting HDDV output.
Finally, the “group photo”.
With humor inherent in the Japanese, the authors of the “anatomical” studies of the Xbox reported that after opening the console, the one-year warranty from the manufacturer is automatically lost. Alas, science sometimes requires sacrifice…
