TSMC Helps Solve Crusoe Cost Problem

Transmeta has finally solved the serious cost problem of its Crusoe processors by contacting Taiwanese TSMC. It is she who, as you know, will now produce the new Crusoe TM5800 using the 0.13 micron technical process. It became known that their cost, thanks to the Transmeta – TSMC partnership, has now been reduced from $ 200 to $ 60 – $ 70.

The first processors that TSMC will start producing for Transmeta will be the Crusoe TM5600 with a clock frequency of 700 MHz – 800 MHz. Then, upon expiration of the contract with IBM, Transmeta will hand over all orders for the production of the Crusoe TM5600 and Crusoe TM3200 to TSMC. Crusoe TM5600 laptops are expected to hit Japanese retail in Q4 2021.
