Winbond is a new manufacturer of multimedia chips?
Further plans for the survival of the Taiwanese Winbond Electronics, which, as you know, have long been looking for an alternative to unprofitable work in the memory market, have been revealed. Charged with suffering quarterly losses from DRAM production, Winbond is reportedly intending to establish a new multimedia chip company headquartered in Taiwan’s Hsinchu R&D Park.
The new company will develop, manufacture and market chips, focusing on chips for PCs and home electronics, especially DVD players and CD-RW drives.
Initially, Winbond intends to spend about $ 34.75 million. to open the first lines for the production of such microcircuits. To work in the new division, the company is transferring about a hundred of its engineers from other subsidiaries located both in Taiwan and abroad. There is no information yet whether it will be an independent subsidiary, or just a department within Winbond itself. It seems that we will find out the details soon enough, after the official presentation of the new multimedia brand.
