Psion launches industrial PDA

Psion, which has officially withdrawn from the consumer PDA market, has released a device it showed a prototype 2.5 years ago.

Netpad, as the company calls it, is something between small PDAs and tablets with full-size displays. As expected for industrial applications, the Netpad cannot be accidentally broken (it can withstand a drop from a height of 1.5 meters onto concrete).

Netpad has a “semi-VGA” 640×240 display, StrongArm SA-1100 processor and Symbian ER5 OS. Netpad currently lacks USB, Ethernet, and Bluetooth, but support for these is going to be added in future versions of Netpad. The company also plans a Netpad version with integrated CDMA or GPRS. The new industrial PDA is made in partnership with the Canadian firm Teklogix, which Psion bought last year. Unbreakable Netpad price – about $ 1800.

By the way, industrial PDAs are one of the core businesses of Psion.
