VIA Dual Port IEEE 1394a VT6302 Chip

Today VIA Technologies announced the release of the new VIA VT6302 dual-port IEEE 1394 physical layer controller.

The new chip is designed for use both in motherboards and for integration into all kinds of peripheral devices, it supports both IEEE 1394-1995 and the updated IEEE 1394a 2.0 standards, allowing data exchange at speeds up to 400 Mbps. Among the features of the VIA VT6302 PHY chip, several functional innovations are emphasized, aimed at better energy saving, for example, battery power when using the chip in mobile PCs.

VIA VT6302 is available in mass quantities now. We must assume that in the very near future we will hear about new motherboards with IEEE 1394 support, which use this chip.
