VIA: updated roadmap of mobile chipsets

VIA’s plans for the next year on the release of chipsets for mobile PCs became known.

In the near future (approximately – the beginning of the first quarter of 2021), the Twister-K-DDR (KN266) chipset will appear in mass quantities for notebooks with AMD Athlon / Duron mobile processors (Athlon XP / Duron XP). Twister-K-DDR is equipped with V-Link bus (266 Mb / s), support for FSB 200/266 MHz, PC133 / DDR266 memory, integrated Savage 4 GFX graphics core, two 110 MHz LVDS transceivers, support for output to TFT, DSTN, and also TV out.

It will be followed by the KN333 chipset, with support for FSB 200/266 MHz, DDR266 / DDR333 memory, integrated graphics core Zoetrope GFX, two integrated LVDS transceivers and TV-out decoder, full support for Dual-View mode; with V-Link bus (533 Mb / s). Samples of KN333 are expected in the middle of the first quarter of 2021, the appearance in mass quantities towards the end of the second quarter.

For mobile processors Intel Tualatin is preparing for mass production (tentatively, towards the end of the year) PN266T chipset: V-Link bus (266 Mb / s), support for 133 MHz FSB, PC133 / DDR266 memory, Savage8 GFX integrated core, two 110 MHz transceivers LVDS, support TFT output, DSTN, TV-out.

The next step will be the P4N266 chipset already available in the samples for Pentium 4 processors: V-Link bus (266 Mb / s), support for 400 MHz FSB, PC133 / DDR266 memory, Savage 4 GFX integrated graphics core, external LVDS transceiver, TV-out. Bulk shipments are expected to start at the end of the fourth quarter of 2021 – the beginning of the first quarter of 2021.

Finally, in March-April 2021, samples of the P4N333 chipset for Pentium 4 processors with FSB 400/533 MHz support will appear: V-Link bus (533 Mb / s), support for DDR266 / DDR333 memory, integrated graphics core Zoetrope GFX, two integrated LVDS transceivers , TV-out decoder, full support for Dual-View mode.

I would also like to emphasize that the currently planned Zoetrope IXc core (full T&L support, integrated TV decoder, two integrated 110 MHz LVDS transceivers, 16/32 MB, 64/128 bit. 166/183 MHz DDR) will be updated somewhat later with the Zoetrope MX version (the same, with support for up to 64 MB 128-bit DDR), followed by Zoetrope SMA (Q3 2021) (166 MHz core / 183 – 200 MHz DDR SDRAM).

Closer to the second half of the year, we will hear about the new Columbia IXc core (8 textures per clock, core / memory 300/300 MHz, up to 32 MB 64-bit. DDR SDRAM, full support for DX8 (/ DX9) and T&L, two 110 MHz LVDS transceivers, full support for Dual-View mode), followed by VIA plans to release the Columbia MX version (up to 64 MB 128 bit. DDR, core / memory 350/300 MHz).

VIA plans to use VT8233 (6-channel audio, HSP V9.0, six USB ports, VIA MAC with MII interface, Home PNA support, 10/100 BT, UDMA 100/66 dual-channel controller), VT8233C (same, but with 3COM MAC MII) and VT8235 (V-Link bus up to 533 MB / s, dual-channel ATA133 IDE controller, six USB ports, 10/100 MAC, 6-channel audio, samples – Q1 2021, mass release – Q2 2021). In addition, VIA offers an additional set of logic: 3-port IEEE 1394 – VT6306 interface controller, 4-port PCI-USB 2.0 bridge VT6202 and 10/100 PHY controller VT6102.
