The US National Science Foundation (NSF) ordered the construction of the world’s most powerful supercomputer on 64-bit Intel Itanium processors.
The supercomputer, dubbed “TeraGrid”, will combine more than 3,300 Itanium processors into a cluster system located in four cities in the United States: the University of Illinois, the San Diego Supercomputer Center (SDSC) at the University of California, and the Argonne National Laboratory, a suburb of Chicago. and at the California Institute of Technology (Pasadena).
