ATA / 133 specification

Maxtor yesterday unveiled the full specification of the new version of the long-awaited Ultra ATA / 133 interface. As you might guess, a computer and a hard disk can theoretically exchange information at speeds of up to 133 Mb / s via this interface.

As it turns out, VIA, SiS, Promise and Silicon Image have already signed licensing agreements with Maxtor regarding ATA / 133. Next in line – companies ACARD, ALi, Agere, Adaptec, HighPoint.

Another interesting detail: Maxtor wants to make a middle name for ATA / 133 – FastDrives (the trademark is already “tied” to the interface). The first devices with ATA / 133 support will begin to appear at the end of this year, and will become mainstream, presumably, closer to the middle of next.
