Infineon and Micron Announce Affiliate Program

Infineon and Micron have signed a partnership agreement to jointly develop a new memory family – Reduced Latency DRAM (RLDRAM). Infineon and Micron aim to make RLDRAM the memory standard for high-speed networking equipment – switches, routers and other latency-sensitive devices.

Initially expected to achieve a transmission rate of 600 Mbps / pin. The primary goal of pushing this forward is to reduce the performance gap between the relatively slow but cheap DRAM and the fast but expensive SRAM. Companies are also interested in building fully – electrically and interoperable – RLDRAM chips.

Representatives of both companies emphasized that the cooperation will be long-term and will extend over several generations of RLDRAM.

Like this. No competitive “romance” and no war of standards and prices. But just normal mutually beneficial work.
