From the courtroom: Intel vs Broadcom case ended

Intel lost $ 82 million lawsuit yesterday., which she filed against Broadcom for infringement of the latter two patents concerning decoding of compressed video signal, as well as network equipment. Jury found Broadcom not guilty of infringement of these patents.

It is not yet clear if the appeal will follow from Intel. There are three more patents in the case, which will be scheduled for a new hearing. The lawsuit was filed back in August 2000.

I remember that an Intel spokesman once said that Broadcom infringes patents “in almost every aspect of its business.”. Over the past two years, companies have filed 4 lawsuits against each other.

Oddly enough, both Intel and Broadcom shares went up yesterday.
