New rumor: new version of i845 SDRAM

In Taipei, there was a rather interesting rumor, according to which Intel is going to release a new version of i845 for SDRAM, which would be cheaper than the existing one. Although the roadmap does not yet have such a chipset, many chipset and motherboard companies on the island keep their eyes open.

If you believe this information, then the new version of the i845 SDR will cost less than $ 30. There is a completely logical explanation for this still theoretical move – the recent increase in DDR prices, which slightly reduced the demand for the i845 B0 (i845D).

If such a version of the chipset is released, it will be a joy for OEMs and low-end manufacturers, where price is very important. And other manufacturers are afraid that such a chipset will put normal sales of motherboards on regular i845 SDRAM.

VIA and SiS have unanimously stated that they were waiting for a similar move from Intel, which could thus try to restore its former market share. Both companies are confident that such a chipset will in no way harm their supply.
