Matrix and TSMC: 3D semiconductors?

Matrix, a new American research company, which is only 3 years old, made an interesting statement the other day. The company claims it was able to develop a method for manufacturing three-dimensional microchips. With this technology, transistors can be positioned both horizontally and vertically.

In theory, this approach can provide higher degrees of integration and, accordingly, reduce the cost of microcircuits. The most interesting thing here is that 3-D microcircuits can be made on standard factory equipment using existing technical processes on ordinary materials without much of their modernization.

Matrix said it has already received 2 patents for its inventions and has filed 60 new ones.

To ensure that such statements do not seem unfounded, much of what was said was confirmed by Taiwanese authority – TSMC. Largest custom chip company says it has co-developed with Matrix. For example, prototypes of non-volatile 3-D memory have been produced.
