Fujitsu and Toshiba: second generation FCRAM

The North American divisions of Fujitsu and Toshiba announced the joint release of the specification of the second generation Fast Cycle RAM products, with a random access cycle of 25 ns, clock rates up to 200 MHz and data rates up to 400 Mbps.

New FCRAM products, according to the specification, will be 17% faster than the first generation chips, the performance of the new memory will increase by 30%. The new generation of FCRAM products will be manufactured using 0.175 micron process technology and will be available in 8- and 16-bit versions. The new chips will have a supply voltage of 2.5 V and will be produced in TSOP version.

The main purpose of FCRAM-II is use in high-speed network systems, servers, Internet-oriented devices.

Fujitsu and Toshiba are confident that the adoption of a common specification for high-speed FCRAM will allow them to confidently move the new standard to the market. Despite working together on the FCRAM-II specification, Fujitsu and Toshiba will manufacture and market their products independently.
