3Com announced its withdrawal from the consumer DSL modem market. 3Com spokesperson says the company will continue to sell commercial DSL routers and modems, but there will be no more consumer modems from 3Com. “This announcement confirms the company’s December 2000 general line of focusing 3Com’s strategy on equipment for businesses and service providers,” a company spokesperson said. 3Com’s current announcement will hit chipset manufacturers: 3Com has embedded Broadcom chipsets in its cable modems, while ADI and TI chips have been used in DSL modems.
