PowerPC G4 + coming soon
We already wrote about the fact that Motorola seems to be doing well with the new generation of processors – G5. As for more real things, then the news is that the company will very soon release new MPC7451 / 7441 processors, which are slightly finished versions of the MPC 7450/7440 cores (desktop G4 and G4 for laptops).
There are no fundamental differences between 74×1 and 74×0. 7441 uses less power, operates at the same frequencies as 7440. But the MPC 7451 switches to 133 MHz FSB and will be available at speeds of 533/667/733/867 MHz. It integrates 64 KB L1 cache, 256 KB L3 cache and supports 1 or 2 MB L3 cache. Chip is produced by 0.18 micron process, packaging – 483 pin CBGA.
As for the 7441, it operates at 1.5 V, comes in a 360-pin Small BGA, L3 cache support is disabled in it, and will be available in 600 and 700 MHz versions.
Most likely, officially both 7451 and 7441 will be called exactly G4+. The exact timing of the release is still unknown. Most likely we are talking about the beginning of next year.
